The Sheep Detectives 2: The Woolly Alibi (2028)

Posted on July 7, 2026

Starring: Hugh Jackman, Emma Thompson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus

The narrative shifts to a grander stage when George is invited to bring his prize-winning flock to the prestigious International Agricultural Expo in London. The stakes are raised immediately when the centerpiece of the event, a historic pair of diamond-encrusted shears, vanishes from its display. When George is framed for the theft, he finds himself in the crosshairs of the law. His flock, realizing that their shepherd is incapable of clearing his own name, must embark on a dangerous and clandestine mission to expose the true culprit and restore George’s reputation.

Emma Thompson and Julia Louis-Dreyfus return to anchor the film, reprising their roles as the lead ovine investigators. Their performances provide the soul of the movie, as they deliver dry, cutting British wit and provide cynical, sharp-eyed observations on the erratic nature of human behavior. The supporting cast adds immense depth and hilarity to the proceedings. Bryan Cranston returns as George’s insufferable and arrogant rival, whose palpable delight at George’s legal troubles creates a formidable antagonist. New additions to the cast include Olivia Colman, who lends her voice to a haughty, upper-class show-poodle who becomes an unlikely and reluctant urban informant for the sheep, and Dev Patel, who portrays a bumbling, well-meaning Scotland Yard inspector constantly stumbling over the evidence the sheep intentionally leave behind.

Once they escape the confines of their high-security expo pens, the flock is thrust into the overwhelming, chaotic, and often terrifying urban landscape of London. The film excels in its depiction of the sheep attempting to navigate human society, as they struggle to interpret confusing city behaviors, conduct tense interrogations with street-smart, world-weary pigeons, and navigate the labyrinthine tunnels of the London Underground.

The investigation builds toward an explosive and hilarious climax involving a high-stakes infiltration of the Expo’s exclusive and elite closing gala. Surrounded by the world’s agricultural high society, the sheep must orchestrate a series of elaborate, precision-timed physical gags and tactical maneuvers. Their goal is to expose the real thief in front of the gathered elite and save George from a lifetime behind bars.

The Woolly Alibi successfully expands upon the charm of the original film, balancing cozy mystery tropes with inventive, animal-centric physical comedy. At its heart, the story is a poignant exploration of the profound, unspoken loyalty between a shepherd and his flock. In a narrative world where human characters are frequently blinded by their own greed, ego, and lack of awareness, this brilliant group of sheep serves as a reminder that the most effective investigators are often those who know exactly how to blend into the herd while keeping their eyes on the prize.
