Nearly a decade after the unforgettable and utterly chaotic events surrounding Lillian’s wedding, Annie has finally managed to get her life firmly on track. Her artisanal bakery has blossomed into a thriving and highly sought after local business, and she is happily and peacefully settled down with the wonderfully supportive Officer Nathan Rhodes. Life is quiet, stable, and completely drama free. However, that tranquility is instantly shattered when a glowing Lillian announces she is pregnant with twins. Without hesitation, Annie is once again thrust into the demanding role of head organizer, tasked with planning the ultimate, picture perfect baby shower for her lifelong best friend.
Determined to avoid the catastrophic mistakes of the past, Annie plans for a delightfully low key, intimate, and entirely stress free backyard gathering. Unfortunately, her modest vision is immediately derailed when Helen swoops back into town from a multi year stint in Paris. Helen has reinvented herself and is now an impossibly glamorous, wealthy, and insufferable mindful parenting guru who boasts millions of social media followers. Helen is absolutely determined to hijack the event and transform the humble shower into an ultra exclusive, high society gala complete with celebrity chefs, pretentious activities, and ridiculous imported decorations.
The old competitive tension between Annie and Helen quickly reaches a boiling point, prompting them to organize a weekend preparation trip at an isolated, astronomically expensive high end wellness retreat to iron out the party details. The peaceful gathering spirals into absolute anarchy the moment the rest of the bridal party arrives. Megan makes a less than subtle entrance by arriving with a literal pack of therapy wolves that she recently rescued and insists are completely tame. Meanwhile, Rita and Becca, both entirely exhausted by their respective family obligations, view this luxurious weekend away as a wild, no holds barred escape from their suffocating domestic lives and are ready to party like never before.
The situation goes from mildly disastrous to completely out of control after the group unknowingly consumes a massive batch of experimental, overly potent organic relaxation supplements provided by the retreat. What follows is a series of wildly escalating, hallucinogenic disasters. The women find themselves involved in a destructive, high speed golf cart chase across a pristine Zen garden, which seamlessly leads into the complete and utter ruin of Helen’s meticulously planned, high fashion maternity photoshoot involving mud, panicked retreat guests, and Megan’s howling wolves.
Just as the chaos reaches its absolute peak, the unthinkable happens. Trapped in their isolated retreat and completely cut off from normal civilization, Lillian suddenly goes into early labor. The women must rapidly shake off their chemically induced haze, put their petty differences aside, and work together to figure out how to handle the terrifying reality of delivering twins in the wilderness. Packed with the original film’s trademark cringe comedy, explosive physical gags, and deeply emotional moments, The Baby Shower is a hilarious exploration of the terrors that come with entering the next major stage of adulthood. It ultimately proves that while Annie might finally have her own life under control, her fiercely loyal friend group will always find a brilliant way to bring the beautiful chaos back into her world.
