Aliyah Boston Opens Up About First Career Knee Surgery

Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston underwent surgery last month to repair a lateral meniscus tear in her right knee.

She revealed the procedure on Wednesday’s episode of Post Moves, the podcast she co-hosts with WNBA legend Candace Parker.

At 24 years old, Boston called this the first surgery of her life.

“I’m a do-it-myself person,” she said on the show.

“So I was yelled at a lot because they were, like, ‘You can’t.’”

The unfamiliarity turned even basic daily tasks into a challenge.

She described one particularly frustrating part of the recovery process.

“Keeping a leg out of the shower so the stitches don’t get wet,” Boston said.

“What do you want me to do? I enjoy my showers.”

The four-time WNBA All-Star dealt with the meniscus issue throughout the entire 2026 WNBA season.

Despite the injury, she missed only four of the Fever’s 44 regular-season games.

She posted 16.1 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting a career-best 40.6 percent from three-point range.

That outside shooting was a dramatic leap — she had averaged just 0.2 made threes per game for her career before this year.

Boston then represented Team USA in its gold-medal run at the FIBA Women’s World Cup.

She held her own against 7-foot-4 Chinese center Zhang Ziyu and earned praise from the coaching staff.

But the heavy workload caught up with her in the postseason.

The Fever lost to the Las Vegas Aces in three games in the first round of the WNBA playoffs.

Boston averaged 19.7 points in that series.

After the season ended, she made the decision to have surgery.

She recently confirmed she will sit out the 2027 Unrivaled season to prioritize a full recovery.

Her contract keeps her in Indiana through 2029, giving the Fever time to get her back at full strength.

On the same episode, Boston and Parker ranked the five most viral moments of Boston’s 2026 season.

The list included a thumbs-down directed at a referee, a corner three-pointer, a stare-down with a Las Vegas Aces player, a “You guys like my cup?” clip, and a bench celebration with Caitlin Clark.

The thumbs-down moment finished first in the ranking.

Boston still disagrees with the call that set it off.

“Oh, I felt that one,” Boston said.

“It was not a good call, I felt like.”

But she added that the referee took it in stride.

“Yeah, but my girl Catherine, she was smiling,” Boston continued.

“So like, you know, that’s why I probably didn’t get in trouble for it.”

Boston had her own pick for the number-one moment, and it was not the referee.

“Oh, this one will always probably be number one because Liz overly played,” Boston explained, referring to an Aces player.

“I did not even hit her like that. For her neck to get thrown all the way back, though, she played.”

Parker explained why the memes matter beyond the laughs.

“I just really love because I know you, people know you, but these memes are a microcosm of you,” Parker said.

“And it gives me so much joy.”

“I can’t help it,” Boston responded.

“I can’t help it. Like, I can’t help it. Sometimes it just comes out.”

Boston’s complaints about officials were not limited to that one clip.

After a 90-88 loss at Chase Center on May 28, a game she played in foul trouble, Boston gave the Valkyries a “shoutout” for “selling it.”

Parker expected pushback on the ranking order before they even started.
