Blake Shelton Reportedly Blindsided After Miranda Lambert Revisits Their Painful Divorce

Blake Shelton was reportedly blindsided when ex-wife Miranda Lambert recently revisited their split, as an insider claimed he believed that difficult chapter was already behind them.

The former country music power couple announced their high-profile separation nearly a decade ago in 2015.

Yet recent comments made by Lambert have reportedly reopened old wounds for Shelton.

A source speaking to In Touch revealed that the sudden discussion caught the singer off guard.

According to the insider, Shelton believed their past issues were completely settled.

Instead, hearing those memories resurface reportedly stirred up unexpected and difficult emotions for him.

The insider noted that the situation made Shelton feel bad about the painful breakup all over again.

A SURPRISE REACTION

For years, both artists appeared to have settled peacefully into their respective separate lives.

They have each spoken on rare occasions about the emotional aftermath of their split.

However, Shelton reportedly thought both parties had quietly agreed to leave the past where it belongs.

"He really thought they’d both put that chapter behind them," an insider stated regarding Shelton's point of view.

The source also noted lingering sorrow regarding how their long-standing relationship ultimately concluded.

"If anything, he thinks it’s sad that things ended on such bad terms, especially because they had so many wonderful years together," the source explained.

The report indicated that Shelton still experiences some regrets surrounding the fallout.

Even with both performers happily remarried, revisiting the emotional turbulence reportedly proved jarring.

REFLECTIONS ON A HIT BALLAD

The unexpected wave of public reflection began during Lambert's recent appearance on the podcast And the Writer Is… with Ross Golan.

During the in-depth interview, the 42-year-old singer looked back on her past collaborative work with Shelton.

Specifically, Lambert reflected on their deeply emotional 2011 ballad titled "Over You."

The song was featured on Lambert’s acclaimed fourth studio record, Four the Record.

Lambert and the 50-year-old Shelton originally wrote the moving track together during their marriage.

The lyrics came from a deeply personal place as both navigated profound personal heartaches at the time.

Among those tragedies was the loss of Shelton's brother alongside the death of Lambert's friend.

"It was one of those really organic moments between not only romantically linked people, but two songwriters met that night," Lambert said on the podcast.

She described the tender creative atmosphere that allowed them to be completely honest with one another.

"I remember saying to him, like, ‘This is your story. Be as vulnerable as you want to. I’ll go there with you if you want to,’" Lambert recalled.

She noted that both artists leaned entirely into the heartbreak of the moment.

"And he did, and so did I," Lambert added.

Looking back on the writing session, Lambert expressed immense appreciation for the bond they shared in that room.

She characterized the co-writing experience as "pretty magical."

"This was two really close friends writing a song that night, and it’s a very special song to both of us," Lambert explained.

THE EMOTIONAL FALLOUT OF 2015

While the collaboration produced an enduring song, their personal relationship eventually faced insurmountable strain.

Lambert and Shelton originally dated for years, spending about a decade together in total.

They officially tied the knot in 2011 and remained husband and wife for approximately four years.

In the summer of 2015, the couple shocked the country music world by announcing their separation.

At the time, they released a joint public statement addressing the painful conclusion of their marriage.

"This was not the future we envisioned, and it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately," the pair shared in 2015.

Over the years, narratives suggested the split was amicable on paper.

Yet insider accounts and past comments reveal that the separation was messy, complicated, and emotionally fraught.

Shelton previously characterized the dissolution of the marriage as utterly "devastating."

In a 2018 appearance on Sunday Today With Willie Geist, Shelton confessed that the breakup pushed him to a dark emotional space.

"When I was going through my divorce and just, you know, hit rock bottom just like anybody does when they go through something that devastating, it’s a miracle that I met somebody that was going through the same exact thing that I was at the same exact moment in time," Shelton shared, per Us Weekly.

That unexpected lifeline came in the form of his fellow coach on The Voice, pop star Gwen Stefani.

TURNING MISERY INTO MUSIC

Lambert echoed similar sentiments regarding the immense emotional difficulty of navigating a divorce.

On the And the Writer Is… podcast, Lambert admitted that going through the breakup was an exhausting trial.

"I got divorced and that sucks for anyone, especially in the public eye, especially on tour, especially in the middle of a very public career, two of us, you know what I mean?" Lambert reflected.

She bluntly summarized the entire period as "a really not fun time."

To cope with the immense personal turmoil, Lambert relocated back to Music City in 2015.

She immediately channeled her personal pain and frustration directly into her creative craft.

"And when I moved back in 2015, I gathered up all of my friends and relationships from, you know, all of the previous years and just used it, used the misery," she explained.
