Boxing Fans Blast Jake Paul Over Cedric Doumbe Bout: 'Back To MMA Guys, Really?'

Boxing fans reacted with frustration following the announcement of Jake Paul's Christmas Eve fight against Cedric Doumbe, criticizing him for reverting to matchup formulas against combat sports veterans.
The announcement arrived with immediate scrutiny across social media platforms.
Supporters and critics alike questioned the direction of Paul's professional boxing career.
Many fans felt that Paul was stepping backward into familiar territory.
"Back to MMA guys, really?" one questioned.
Another commenter accused Paul of following an uninspired promotional blueprint.
"So you’re boxing another MMA guy that hasn’t fought in a few years. Sticking to the original playbook," the fan wrote.
Another spectator dismissed the appeal of the matchup entirely.
"Nobody watching this bs," an enraged fan posted online.
Others took aim at the profile of Paul's chosen opponent.
"Just another no name that has some fighting accolades so Jake can get SOME credit when he flatlines the guy," another user remarked.
THE RETURN TO COMBAT CROSSOVERS
For months, observers debated whom Paul would face upon his return to the ring.
The 29-year-old built his combat sports reputation by challenging prominent mixed martial arts fighters inside a boxing ring.
Over the course of his crossover career, Paul regularly targeted established cage fighters rather than pure boxers.
That strategy brought him massive commercial success alongside constant skepticism from traditional boxing purists.
Critics frequently argued that Paul avoided traditional contenders who had trained in pure boxing since childhood.
After recent outings against seasoned boxers, many assumed Paul would remain on a standard professional boxing trajectory.
Instead, the selection of Doumbe signaled a return to crossover competition.
The choice left a vocal segment of fight fans feeling alienated and exasperated.
THE TILL FALLOUT AND FRAUD ACCUSATIONS
The fan backlash also caught fire because another high-profile name was discarded in the process.

Former UFC middleweight contender Darren Till unleashed fierce criticism against Paul and Most Valuable Promotions.
Till called Paul a fraud after being passed over for the Christmas Eve date.
According to Till, a deal had already been agreed between the parties before Paul abruptly pivoted to Doumbe.
Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship president David Feldman addressed the situation surrounding Till.
Feldman indicated that BKFC intends to keep Till active with substantial opportunities.
"We’re going to have some big names for Darren Till in the mix very, very shortly," Feldman told MMA Fighting.
"One of them will be part of our announcement we’re going to make in the next couple weeks," Feldman added.
Feldman explained the promotion's perspective regarding Till's potential outside ventures.
"It comes to do we have something for Darren Till that makes sense?" Feldman said.
"Is the timing going to be right?"
"If we have to lay him off for eight, nine months, it’s only fair to let him go out and make a payday because the momentum’s going to be killed anyway if we don’t have a fight for him."
"But if we have a fight that I think we’re going to have in the next two weeks to announce, then obviously he’s fighting for BKFC."
"If we don’t then there is an option for him to possibly to fight a Jake Paul or something like that," Feldman explained.
Till's exclusion only amplified the fan narrative that Paul was carefully managing his matchmaking risk.
THE JOSHUA DAMAGE STILL LINGERS
Paul enters this fight carrying the physical consequences of his previous appearance.
The last time Paul stepped through the ropes, Anthony Joshua stopped him in the sixth round at Miami’s Kaseya Center on December 19, 2025.
That encounter with the former two-time heavyweight world champion ended with Paul suffering a broken jaw in two places.
Two surgical procedures followed, leaving Paul with titanium plates in his mouth.
Paul admitted to reporters that the severe injury nearly concluded his fighting journey.
"He broke my jaw. I have two titanium plates in my mouth. I couldn’t eat for weeks," Paul said.
The brutal knockout loss dropped Paul's professional boxing record to 12-2 with 7 knockouts.

That defeat also ended an easier stretch of matchmaking that featured a 2024 clash against a 58-year-old Mike Tyson.
Paul's most recent victory in the ring occurred in June 2025 against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Now, Paul makes his return exactly one year after the devastating Joshua stoppage.
DOUMBE PRESENTS A STRIKING THREAT
While fans voiced anger over the crossover formula, Doumbe represents a uniquely dangerous striker.
The Cameroon-born Frenchman made his international name as a two-time Glory welterweight kickboxing world champion.
Across his illustrious kickboxing career, Doumbe compiled an intimidating record of 75 wins, 7 losses, and 1 draw.
Among those 75 kickboxing victories, Doumbe stopped 45 opponents via knockout.
Doumbe made the transition to professional mixed martial arts in 2021.
In MMA competition, the 34-year-old has compiled a record of 6 wins and 1 loss.
However, Doumbe has not competed since knocking out Jaleel Willis more than two years ago.
His professional boxing ledger is nearly nonexistent.
Doumbe has participated in only one previous professional boxing match.
That lone ring outing came back in April 2015, resulting in a victory over Mohamed Fodil.
FIGHT TERMS AND THE MIDDLE EAST SHOWDOWN
The bout will take place on December 24 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
Most Valuable Promotions, the promotional organization co-founded by Paul, is staging the holiday card.
According to Sky Sports, the contest will be an eight-round cruiserweight clash.
The contract specifies a 200-pound weight limit.
Both combatants will wear standard 10-ounce boxing gloves.
The matchup will be contested over eight three-minute rounds under full professional boxing rules.
Paul emphasised the rule set when addressing Doumbe's transition into the squared circle.

"This is BOXING," Paul told Sky Sports.
Paul went on to promise that he would have the French combatant "for dinner in Dubai on Christmas Eve."
Doumbe delivered a cold, concise response to Paul's remarks.
"Jake loves to talk. I’m going to finish the job Joshua started," Doumbe declared.
A PROMISE OF RETIREMENT
To raise the stakes of the event, Paul delivered a dramatic ultimatum about his boxing future.
Paul announced that he will permanently step away from boxing if Doumbe defeats him.
"If he wins, I will hang up the gloves and call it a day," Paul said alongside the fight announcement.
Paul expanded on his mindset during a video posted to his YouTube channel.
"This is a dangerous fight. Cedric has been in there with killers his whole career," Paul said.
"He's a two-time world champion and he's not scared of anybody, including me 'The Vanilla Gorilla.'"
Paul highlighted the distinct boundaries separating boxing from mixed martial arts.
"But this is my sport. No kicks, no takedowns, and no glass on the floor, we checked."
"If he wins, I will hang up the gloves and call it a day, but if he loses, the man who calls himself 'The Best' just got beat up by a YouTuber with a titanium jaw."
Paul closed his address with a confident prediction.
"So Cedric Doumbe, I, Jake Joseph Paul, will knock you out, embarrass you and defeat you on Christmas Eve."
"This fight is not going the distance and someone is getting put to sleep in the Middle East and it's not Santa."
THE ROAD AHEAD FOR PAUL
A potential third defeat would carry monumental ramifications for Paul's public persona.
His crossover career absorbed his previous setbacks while remaining firmly inside the entertainment spotlight.
By pledging to hang up his gloves, Paul has attached his entire competitive existence to the outcome in Dubai.
He either overcomes an accomplished striker with 45 kickboxing knockouts, or his fighting career terminates by his own vow.
Yet for many fight enthusiasts, the spectacle cannot mask the repetitive nature of Paul's opponent selection.
They see another veteran striker stepping outside his primary discipline into Paul's preferred arena.
Did Jake Paul take a step backward by choosing Cedric Doumbe instead of an active traditional boxer?
