The set was structured across three distinct acts, each with its own tone reinforced by a shifting backdrop of screens that tracked the mood of the performance — sparse and cool during a stripped-down acoustic segment, warm and golden once the full band returned.

That acoustic segment made up the show's second act, during which Stapleton briefly sent his band offstage to perform solo, echoing the stripped-down style of his early career. The band returned partway through an extended outro of "I Was Wrong," delivering a dramatic re-entry that ushered in the night's third act, filled with fan favorites including "You Should Probably Leave," "Starting Over" and "Broken Halos."

Stapleton paid tribute to his musical influences throughout the night with a total of five covers, an unusually high number for a headlining set. These included "Millionaire" by Kevin Welch, a rendition of Al Green's "I'm a Ram" performed with opener Allen Stone, John Fogerty's "Joy Of My Life," and Vince Gill's "Liza Jane" performed alongside opener Zach Top. The main set closed with "Tennessee Whiskey" — technically a cover written by David Allan Coe, though Stapleton's 2015 version of the song was what first propelled him to mainstream stardom, giving the closing slot a full-circle significance. He returned for a two-song encore of "Sometimes I Cry" and "Outlaw State Of Mind."

The review placed particular emphasis on the band supporting Stapleton throughout the night. Harmonicist Mickey Raphael, who spent 53 years playing for Willie Nelson before joining Stapleton, anchored much of the show, while pedal steel player Paul Franklin repeatedly drew attention on the venue's video screens. Bassist J.T. Cure, who has played alongside Stapleton for 25 years, keyboardist Lee Pardini, drummer Derek Mixon and guitarist and producer Dave Cobb rounded out the lineup. Stapleton also introduced his wife, Morgane Stapleton, as his backup vocalist — a creative partner who helped shape his 2015 debut album "Traveller" and co-produced his most recent record, "Higher," from which much of the tour's setlist was drawn.

The review concluded that the night's most powerful instrument wasn't a guitar or a pedal steel, but the decades-long partnership between Stapleton and the team surrounding him — evidence, in the reviewer's words, that true musicianship extends well beyond individual skill.

CHRIS STAPLETON CONCERT REVIEW: A MASTERCLASS IN MUSICIANSHIP Chris Stapleton delivered a two-hour showcase of vocal power and technical guitar work at Fenway Park on Aug. 15, the Boston stop of his…

[1

post-925","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
