John Cena picks iconic rival's son for his WWE classic.

John Cena found the next invitee to his namesake WWE showcase at NXT on Wednesday night.
The 16-time world champion made a rare appearance on WWE’s developmental brand to reveal the second member of the John Cena Classic field.
He chose Zilla Fatu.
Fatu is a third-generation pro wrestler who made his NXT debut earlier this year.
He is the son of the late Umaga, the Samoan Bulldozer who feuded with Cena in a brutal WWE rivalry from 2006 to 2007.
He is also the great-nephew of Afa and Sika, known to wrestling fans as The Wild Samoans.
Cena acknowledged the deep connection he shares with the Anoa’i family tree during the announcement.
“This building, to me, means potential,” Cena said from the NXT ring.
“And potential, to me, is opportunity – and it is opportunity season.”

Cena then called Fatu to the ring and shared a personal message.
“I’m here tonight for you,” Cena said.
“Tonight is very important for me. I kinda feel like an honorary Samoan sometimes.”
He traced his own history with the family.
“My legacy dates back to run-ins with Rikishi, standing toe-to-toe with The Rock,” Cena said.
“Facing Roman Reigns. Throwing a few back with the twins, I love my Uces. And being first in line to give Solo (Sikoa) an opportunity. Also, I absolutely loved your dad.”
The reference to Umaga carried extra weight.
Umaga and Cena headlined multiple pay-per-views in 2006 and 2007, including a Last Man Standing match at Royal Rumble 2007 that is still considered one of the most violent fights in WWE history.
Cena made clear the invitation was personal.

“For real, your family has done so much for me,” Cena said.
“It is an honor, tonight, to give to you an opportunity to debut in the John Cena Classic.”
Fatu was visibly emotional as Cena spoke about his father.
“Thank you John, thank you,” Fatu said.
“You got me really, really emotional right now. I just want to say I appreciate you. I appreciate the relationship you had with my family. I appreciate the relationship you had with each and everybody in my family but I’m more blessed that you are giving me this opportunity.”
He then sent a message to everyone watching Monday Night Raw on December 14.
“I’m coming for everything,” Fatu said.
The John Cena Classic is scheduled for December 14, 2026, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Disney World.
Fatu joins Cody Rhodes as the first two confirmed entrants in the tournament.

Cena unveiled the John Cena Classic Championship belt on Monday, November 3.
WWE fans who sign up with Club WWE will be able to vote on the winner of the event, regardless of their subscription tier.
Backstage after the announcement, NXT star Kam Hendrix approached Cena and asked why he had not received an invitation.
Cena advised Hendrix to focus on his upcoming match against EK Prosper rather than boasting about his abilities.
The moment was captured by NXT cameras and posted on WWE social media accounts.
Cena is expected to announce additional entrants during upcoming appearances on Raw, SmackDown, and Survivor Series.
The John Cena Classic is the first WWE event named after an active wrestler since the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal was introduced in 2014.
Cena has been a part-time performer since 2018, balancing his WWE appearances with a successful acting career in Hollywood.
He has starred in films such as “The Suicide Squad,” “Fast & Furious 9,” and “Peacemaker” on HBO Max.

Despite his reduced schedule, Cena remains one of the most recognizable faces in professional wrestling history.
His rivalry with Umaga is remembered as one of the defining feuds of his early career as a top babyface.
Umaga, whose real name was Edward Fatu, died in 2009 at age 36 from a heart attack.
Zilla Fatu has spoken publicly about carrying on his father’s legacy since signing with WWE in early 2026.
He made his in-ring debut on an episode of NXT Level Up in March 2026 and has since competed regularly on the brand.
WWE’s developmental system, housed at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, has produced many of the company’s current main-roster stars.
The John Cena Classic is designed to spotlight emerging talent from NXT and give them a platform on a major event.
The tournament format has not been fully disclosed, but WWE has confirmed it will involve multiple matches on the December 14 card.
WWE generated nearly $400 million in revenue during the third quarter of 2026, just $3 million below the same period last year despite holding only one premium live event compared to four in 2025.

Total company revenue for TKO Group Holdings, WWE’s parent company, reached $1.36 billion with adjusted EBITDA of $557 million.
TKO raised its full-year financial guidance for the second consecutive quarter following the strong performance.
WWE’s revenue for the first nine months of 2026 reached $1.496 billion, up from $1.35 billion in the same period in 2025.
The John Cena Classic is expected to draw significant viewership, particularly with the fan-vote element driving engagement.
Cena’s appearance on NXT drew a strong reaction from the live crowd in the WWE Performance Center arena.
Fans chanted “John Cena” and “You can’t see me” throughout the segment.
The announcement was also promoted heavily on WWE’s social media channels, including Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
WWE has not yet announced the full match card for the December 14 event.
Additional entrants are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks on Raw and SmackDown.
The John Cena Classic represents a new chapter in Cena’s relationship with the WWE universe.
Cena has often said he wants to use his platform to elevate the next generation of superstars.
By choosing Zilla Fatu, he has done exactly that — while honoring a rivalry that helped define his own career.
