Lomachenko signs with Top Rank, eyes early 2027 return

Lomachenko signs with Top Rank, eyes early 2027 return

Vasiliy Lomachenko has officially reversed his 2025 retirement.

The three-division world champion signed a multi-year co-promotional agreement with Top Rank.

The deal also involves his newly formed company, Loma Power Promotions.

Top Rank announced the signing on Thursday.

Lomachenko last fought in May 2024.

He stopped George Kambosos Jr. in eleven rounds to win the vacant IBF lightweight title.

He announced his retirement in June 2025.

Now, after more than two years away, he is returning to the ring.

He will drop down to junior lightweight, a division he has not fought in since 2017.

Lomachenko is 38 years old — he turns 39 in February 2027.

He is a two-time Olympic gold medalist from Ukraine.

His professional record stands at 18 wins, 3 losses, with 12 knockouts.

Top Rank has promoted Lomachenko since his pro debut in 2013.

He won his first world title in just his third professional fight.

That came by majority decision against Gary Russell Jr. for the vacant WBO featherweight title.

He later won the WBO junior lightweight title by fifth-round knockout of Roman Martinez in 2016.

He moved up to lightweight and stopped Jorge Linares in 2018 for the WBA 135-pound title.

He unified titles by beating Jose Pedraza and Luke Campbell.

In 2020, he lost all three belts by unanimous decision to Teofimo Lopez.

In 2023, he fought for the undisputed lightweight championship against Devin Haney.

Lomachenko lost by unanimous decision, but he has insisted he won that fight.

His last fight before retirement was the Kambosos bout in May 2024.

A rumored fight against Gervonta Davis never materialized.

Lomachenko then stepped away from boxing.

Now he says a change of heart brought him back.

“God works in mysterious ways,” Lomachenko said in a statement.

“I thought I would never step back into the ring again as a boxer.”

“But our Lord Jesus Christ had other plans for me.”

“I’m happy to be living this boxing life once again.”

“I’m grateful to everyone who is once again part of this journey.”

Top Rank chairman Bob Arum also commented on the signing.

“Vasiliy is one of the most gifted fighters I’ve ever promoted,” Arum said.

“I’m delighted he’s returning to the ring.”

“He’s accomplished so much, but he’s determined to become undisputed.”

That goal — becoming undisputed — is the driving force behind the comeback.

Lomachenko has never been undisputed champion in any division.

He came closest at lightweight, holding three of the four major belts.

But he lost them to Teofimo Lopez before he could collect the fourth.

Now he is chasing that achievement at junior lightweight.

The targeted return date is early 2027.

According to multiple reports, the fight is lined up for February 13.

The likely opponent is Charly Suarez.

Suarez is the WBO mandatory challenger at junior lightweight.

He is undefeated with a record of 19 wins, 0 losses, and 11 knockouts.

Arum confirmed the matchup in an interview with Fight Freaks Unite.

“Loma is gonna fight Suarez,” Arum said.

“That’s pretty well done (for) February.”

The potential venue is Las Vegas.

Arum also outlined a longer plan for Lomachenko’s return.

“We’re gonna have a long-term deal,” Arum said.

“Whoever wins that fight (between Lomachenko and Suarez) would fight Foster sometime in the spring or summer of next year.”

O’Shaquie Foster is the WBC junior lightweight champion.

A fight between Lomachenko and Foster would be a major unification bout.

Arum added: “Whoever wins that fight between Loma and Foster would then fight the guy who has the other title.”

The WBA champion at junior lightweight is Anthony Cacace.

Cacace is scheduled to defend his title against Nick Ball later this year.

That means the path to undisputed could run through Cacace or the WBO champion.

Lomachenko has never fought at junior lightweight since 2017.

He vacated the WBO 130-pound title after moving up to lightweight.
