Poirier and Buckley’s Feud Explodes Over Racial Slur

Dustin Poirier has fired back after Joaquin Buckley made his issues with the UFC veteran public.
Buckley is also caught up in a heated confrontation with Sean Strickland.
Things are getting increasingly interesting.
The feud began when Buckley took aim at Poirier over the racial slur he used during his airport arrest.
Poirier was arrested for public intoxication at Atlanta International Airport in June.
Footage of the incident went viral.
In the video, Poirier was seen challenging an officer and using a racial slur.
He later addressed the incident publicly, apologized for his behavior, and thanked the officers involved for their handling of the situation.
The controversy has found its way back into the conversation.
Buckley used an unlikely link to reopen the issue: heavyweight prospect Josh Hokit.
Poirier recently praised Hokit’s promotional work on the Deep Waters podcast, describing the heavyweight’s efforts as a “crushing job.”
Buckley took issue with that endorsement.
He used it as an opportunity to revisit the airport incident.
Buckley questioned Poirier’s explanation of what led to his behavior that day.
He did not hold back in his video response.

“It all makes sense to me now,” Buckley said.
“All that crying you was doing in them interviews, talking about, ‘Man, I just need a distraction. If I don’t have a good distraction, if I don’t have something to focus on, I get into chaos.’”
“I start to do sh*t, certain stuff, and I get this dark side. All that shit was bullsh*t. All of it was.”
Buckley also alleged that Poirier appropriates “aspects of black culture in his public persona, without standing by the community.”
It did not take long for Poirier to respond.
“Tryna get some views? Shut up or k*ll me!”
Poirier wrote in his reply.
Buckley responded with an even more personal attack.
“Not that long ago that’s what you wanted to do to yourself. Delete yourself,” Buckley wrote.
“When I see you, let’s talk about it. You take the first swing.”
Buckley is clearly referring to the revelations Poirier made earlier this year about being depressed and struggling with his mental health after retiring from the UFC.
Poirier has not responded to these latest comments.
Buckley’s feud with Poirier is not his only current conflict.
He is also in a confrontation with Sean Strickland.
The details of that exchange remain unclear.

But the overlap between the two rivalries has created a three-way tension in the UFC welterweight and middleweight scenes.
Buckley is a UFC welterweight who has never shied away from going at other fighters.
He has a long list of rivals and enemies in the UFC, some in his weight class and others who aren’t.
Poirier is a former interim lightweight champion and a future UFC Hall of Famer.
He retired after UFC 318 last year.
Less than a year after retiring, Poirier was arrested for public intoxication at an Atlanta airport.
During his arrest, Poirier threatened a responding police officer and used a racial slur.
Poirier is scheduled to appear in court in the coming months.
If convicted, he faces up to a year in prison.
Buckley’s video response to Poirier was posted on his Instagram.
“Dustin Poirier don’t f— with us,” Buckley said in the video.
“Yeah, he’d like to be one of us. He likes it when he pulls up his little jeans and s— when he fights, he likes to scuff his little nose when he’s doing s—.”
“Wants to say, ‘Yeah, I’m from Lafayette, I’m from Lafayette, I went to school with all the black folks.’ Corny-a– m———–.”
“I’m going to tell you all right now, for real, it can be like that, any person that got a problem with what I’m saying, especially you Dustin Poirier, if you really want to roll up and do something about it, I promise you this: In your words, it’s gonna be bad for you. my n—-.”
“Pull up and do something,” Buckley continued.

Poirier responded in the comments.
“Tryna get some views? Shut up or kill me!” Poirier wrote.
In a follow-up, Buckley challenged Poirier to meet face-to-face.
“Not that long ago, that’s what you wanted to do to yourself. Delete yourself. Remove yourself from the Earth. Don’t put a charge on me,” Buckley said.
“But I’ll tell you this real quick. When I see you, let’s have that conversation. Let’s talk about it. And if you don’t want to talk, [I won’t talk] either, but you take the first swing. You take the first swing, but I promise you I’ll get the first hit, though.”
Buckley has said he will fight one more time after his latest loss to Mike Malott at UFC Edmonton.
He will fulfill a promise to his grandmother and hang up the gloves after one more appearance inside the Octagon.
In the meantime, this feud with Poirier is on his radar.
The MMA world has been keeping tabs on Ilia Topuria’s return timeline and Islam Makhachev’s latest revelation.
Poirier and Buckley were hardly two names anyone expected to see involved in the same feud in 2026.
But the rivalry is now building in the background.
And with Buckley also in a confrontation with Strickland, the situation is growing more complex.
No fight between Poirier and Buckley has been scheduled or announced.
Poirier is retired and has no fight booked.
Buckley has one fight left on his contract.
Whether the two will meet in person or inside the Octagon remains uncertain.
The feud continues to escalate with each exchange.
