Randy Arozarena’s Silver Slugger nod boosts his free agency value

SEATTLE MARINERS' RANDY AROZARENA NAMED SILVER SLUGGER FINALIST
Major League Baseball and Louisville Slugger announced Thursday that Seattle Mariners outfielder Randy Arozarena has been named a finalist for the American League Silver Slugger Award.
Arozarena, 31, is one of nine outfield finalists in the AL.
The other eight are Wilyer Abreu of the Boston Red Sox, Cody Bellinger of the New York Yankees, Jac Caglianone of the Kansas City Royals, Chase DeLauter of the Cleveland Guardians, Riley Greene of the Detroit Tigers, Tristan Peters of the Chicago White Sox, Chandler Simpson of the Tampa Bay Rays and Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels.
The three winners from this group will be announced on November 17.
This is the first time Arozarena has been a finalist since 2023, and only the fourth time in his career.
He was also a finalist in 2021, 2022 and 2023 while playing for the Tampa Bay Rays.
He has never won a Silver Slugger.

That could change this year.
Among qualified AL outfielders in 2026, Arozarena ranked first in OPS (.865), wRC+ (151) and fWAR (5.5).
He also led all AL outfielders in runs scored with 113.
He ranked second in hits (161), home runs (26) and stolen bases (26).
He ranked third in on-base percentage (.381), slugging percentage (.484) and doubles (34).
He ranked fourth in RBIs (79), sixth in walks (68) and seventh in batting average (.281).
Among all American League batters — not just outfielders — Arozarena ranked first in runs scored.
He finished tied for second in wRC+, tied for fourth in doubles, fifth in on-base percentage, sixth in OPS, tied for sixth in hits and seventh in stolen bases.
Only Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros accumulated more batting runs among all AL hitters.

Arozarena slashed .281/.381/.484 over 154 games in 2026.
He hit 26 home runs and stole 26 bases, marking his sixth consecutive season with at least 20 homers and 20 steals.
That puts him in rare company.
He became the 11th player in MLB history with at least six such seasons.
He also became the fifth player to do it in at least six consecutive seasons, joining Barry Bonds (1990-98), Bobby Bonds (1969-75), Bobby Abreu (1999-2005) and Willie Mays (1955-60).
Arozarena earned his third career All-Star nod this season.
He is the only Seattle Mariner named a Silver Slugger finalist this year.
The last Mariner to win a Silver Slugger was catcher Cal Raleigh, who won during his 60-homer season in 2025.
The most recent Seattle outfielder to claim the award was Julio Rodríguez, who won in back-to-back seasons from 2022 to 2023.
Arozarena became a free agent when the offseason began on November 2.
The Mariners extended a qualifying offer to him, but he is widely expected to decline it.
If he declines, the Mariners would receive compensatory draft pick compensation if he signs elsewhere.
Arozarena is represented by super-agent Scott Boras.
Boras has a well-known track record of maximizing free-agent value for his clients, often taking negotiations deep into the winter.
A Silver Slugger award would give Boras another piece of evidence to present to prospective suitors.
Already, Arozarena's resume includes a Rookie of the Year award, an ALCS MVP trophy and three All-Star selections.
Projections for his contract tend to fall in the nine-figure range, according to industry sources cited in the reporting.
That type of deal is historically rare for the Seattle Mariners in free agency.

The Mariners have a reputation for operating with a tighter payroll than many of their division rivals.
Arozarena led the Mariners in nearly every major offensive category this season.
He posted full-season career bests in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
His 148 OPS+ was also a career high for a full season.
In 2025, Arozarena was not named a Silver Slugger finalist — a snub that was noted by observers at the time.
This year, his statistical case is so strong that multiple analysts described him as a near-certain winner.
One analysis from Sodo Mojo put it bluntly: "Fat chance of Arozarena missing out this time."
Arozarena does carry some red flags that teams could use to keep his price in check.
His average bat speed has declined nearly 2 mph since 2023, according to bat-tracking data.

That decline could be a concern for teams projecting his future production.
But Arozarena and Boras can point to the Silver Slugger finalist nod — and likely win — as proof that the production is what matters.
The argument would be that Arozarena succeeded this season by meeting his physical limitations where they are, rather than trying to overpower the ball.
His approach shifted away from swinging as hard as possible and toward consistent, high-quality contact.
The numbers back that up.
A Silver Slugger award would not change his free agency overnight.
But it gives him another data point in negotiations, and it reinforces the narrative that he is an elite offensive outfielder at a time when the market is deciding his value.
The winners will be announced on November 17.
If Arozarena wins, he will join a list of Mariners outfielders who have taken the award home.
If he does not, he still enters free agency with the strongest offensive season of his career and a finalist nod that signals how close he came.
Either way, the math on his next contract just got a little more interesting.
