AEW Star Breaks Silence on Randy Orton Comparisons

AEW Star Breaks Silence on Randy Orton Comparisons

Kyle Fletcher Responds to Randy Orton Comparisons.

AEW star Kyle Fletcher has finally addressed the growing comparisons between himself and WWE legend Randy Orton.

Speaking on Tony Schiavone's podcast "What Happened When," Fletcher explained his initial reaction to being likened to the 14-time world champion.

"When I first started hearing it, my reaction was, 'Oh man, Randy Orton's great. I love Randy Orton,'" Fletcher said.

"So to even be mentioned in the same sentence as him, I was like, 'Wow, that's awesome.'"

The comparisons began after Fletcher changed his look.

He shaved his head and added significant muscle mass.

Fans noticed the resemblance to Orton's build and ring presence.

Fletcher acknowledged the flattery but made clear he wants his own legacy.

"I think any wrestler should want to carve their own path, and I think I've started to do so," he said.

He also addressed the obvious gap in accomplishments.

"It's hard to compare us because Randy has 30 years in the business," Fletcher noted.

"He's won 14 world championships. Obviously, I'm not at that level yet."

Rather than let the comparisons define him, Fletcher sees them as motivation.

"I don't take it as a negative thing whatsoever," he said.

"It makes me more and more determined to carve my own path."

Fletcher even shared his long-term goal.

"I would like to think that by the time my career is said and done, people will be doing the same thing to me," he said.

He wants future wrestlers to be compared to him.

This is not the first time Fletcher has drawn praise from established names.

Paul Wight once said the AEW star "has money written all over him."

Fletcher has also named WWE veterans as inspiration for his promo style.

During the same interview, Fletcher explained the origin of his catchphrase "Say my full name."

"It was something I said once in a promo," he recalled.

"I can't remember who, but somebody texted me and was like, 'You should keep saying that.'"

The meaning behind the phrase is deliberate.

"My idea behind it was when you address someone you respect, you would say their full name," Fletcher explained.

"'Hello Mr. Kyle Fletcher, how are you?' That was the idea behind it."

He wanted people to show respect to him.

"The flipside, as a villain, I could refer to people by a shorthand or one name, and show disrespect in return," he said.

The catchphrase has become a signature part of his character.

Fletcher has been with AEW since 2020, originally as part of the tag team Aussie Open with Mark Davis.

He has since transitioned to a singles career.

His in-ring style combines technical wrestling with hard-hitting strikes.

The Orton comparisons have followed him during this solo run.

Wrestling fans have debated the similarities on social media and forums.

Some see the physical resemblance as striking.

Others argue Fletcher's style is distinct enough to stand on its own.

Fletcher's response shows he is aware of both sides.

He accepts the comparison as a compliment but refuses to be limited by it.

His ambition is to build a career that future wrestlers will want to emulate.

That is a long road.

Orton has been a main-event fixture for two decades.

He has held the WWE Championship 10 times and the World Heavyweight Championship 4 times.

Orton is also known for his signature move, the RKO, which has become one of the most famous finishers in wrestling history.

Fletcher does not have that level of resume yet.
