Danny Sullivan and Rock Icons Join Jimmie Johnson's NASCAR Team

Legacy Motor Club adds even more investors, including Indy 500 winner Danny Sullivan.
Jimmie Johnson’s NASCAR team announced 16 new members of its Strategic Ownership Group on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026.
The additions bring the publicly identified roster to 28 investors.
The group includes Indianapolis 500 winner and CART champion Danny Sullivan.
Ben Lovett, a founding member of the Grammy-winning band Mumford & Sons, also joined.
Michael Wystrach, co-founder of Freshly and Petfolk, is another new investor.
Nat Zilkha, executive chairman of Gibson, Inc. and co-founder of Firebird Music, came aboard.
Tim Headington, an entrepreneur in hospitality, real estate and film, also invested.
Johnathan Crocker, co-founder of Frank August and Thousand Acres, rounded out the six named additions.
Ten others joined without being listed in the team’s press release: Jim Brown, Ellie Franchitti, Nick Hanauer, John T. McCoy, Bart Proctor, Andy Reiner, Tommaso Sandretto, Richie Schmock, Alex Song, and Jamie Tisch.
“I wanted to bring together people who know what it takes to build something exceptional and sustain it,” Johnson said in a statement from the team.
“They’ve competed, created, taken risks and led people.”
“They bring different experiences but share a belief in what LEGACY can become.”

“Winning is the ambition, and this group brings valuable perspective to building the organization that makes it possible.”
Among the most notable new investors is Nick Hanauer, a Seattle-based venture capitalist who was an early investor in Amazon.
Hanauer’s investment history includes companies that eventually became multibillion-dollar acquisitions.
Sullivan’s racing credentials include winning the 1985 Indianapolis 500 and the 1988 CART championship.
He joins a Legacy ownership roster already deep in open-wheel talent.
Six-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon, four-time champion and three-time Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti, and 2013 Indy 500 winner Tony Kanaan were already part of the group.
Lovett brings a different kind of expertise.
As a founding member of Mumford & Sons, he has spent his career in front of a global audience.
He also founded TVG Hospitality, which develops and operates music venues and entertainment destinations.
“Some of the most powerful communities begin with a shared passion,” Lovett said in the team’s release.
“I’ve experienced that through music and through creating places where people come together.”
“What excites me about LEGACY is the opportunity to help build that sense of connection around racing.”
“There’s an extraordinary world behind the race itself, and so much potential to invite people into it.”

Legacy Motor Club is co-owned by Johnson, a seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion.
Johnson took over the organization in 2023 and has been building its ownership structure since then.
The team has not yet won a race under its current identity.
Previous investors announced in July 2026 include Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper, celebrity chef Guy Fieri, country singer Darius Rucker, tennis champion Andy Roddick, and IndyCar greats Scott Dixon, Dario Franchitti and Tony Kanaan.
Other earlier investors include Sam Byrne, Jen Rubio, Kelly Slater, and Chase Utley.
That July announcement billed the group as holding more than 30 championships and major professional titles.
Legacy Motor Club will expand into a three-car organization in 2027.
The team will field the No. 42 of Josh Berry, the No. 43 of Erik Jones, and the No. 84 of Riley Herbst.
Johnson himself will make his final Daytona 500 appearance in the No. 48 in February 2027.
The ownership group now spans professional sports, music, technology, and some of the biggest businesses in the country.
Wystrach co-founded Freshly, a meal delivery company that was acquired by Nestlé in 2020.
Zilkha’s background includes private equity and investments across music, entertainment and hospitality.
Headington has investments across hospitality, real estate and film production.

Crocker co-founded Frank August, a whiskey brand, and Thousand Acres, a hospitality company.
The team described the investors as bringing “different experiences but share a belief in what LEGACY can become.”
Johnson’s blueprint stretches beyond the racetrack.
The 28-member group gives the team access to expertise in building brands, developing communities, and scaling businesses.
Lovett’s experience with live music venues aligns with the team’s interest in creating destinations around racing.
Sullivan’s open-wheel success adds credibility with a fan base that spans IndyCar and NASCAR.
Hanauer’s early-Amazon investment history brings insight into identifying and growing emerging businesses.
The team has not disclosed financial terms of any of the investments.
It also has not said whether the ownership group will expand further.
Johnson’s final Daytona 500 start adds a personal milestone to the team’s 2027 season.
The three-car expansion gives the team more driver development opportunities and revenue potential.
Legacy Motor Club has not announced any further investor additions beyond the 28 now publicly identified.
The racing world is watching to see whether the off-track moves translate into on-track results.
