Eddie Hearn Floats Public Debate With Dana White as Fury-Joshua Rivalry Spills Into Fight Talks

Eddie Hearn Floats Public Debate With Dana White as Fury-Joshua Rivalry Spills Into Fight Talks

Matchroom Boxing chairman Eddie Hearn floated the idea of a public debate with UFC CEO Dana White following a year of public sparring over the Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua card.

The verbal war between two of combat sports' most visible figures has moved far beyond normal promotional banter.

What began as sharp friction over fight production has rapidly escalated into proposals for physical combat.

Hearn and White have spent much of 2026 trading public barbs over their respective roles in staging the long-anticipated heavyweight clash between Fury and Joshua.

Now, that bitter corporate standoff has opened the door to formal fight offers from outside promoters.

While promoters often settle disputes through media interviews and press conferences, this rivalry has taken an unusual detour toward an actual sanctioned bout.

Hearn, however, has signaled that a verbal clash on an open stage might be the more fitting venue.

The Matchroom executive recently confirmed he would welcome a live public debate with the UFC boss.

That suggestion arrived as fight talk reached a fever pitch across the combat sports landscape.

A HEATED PROMOTIONAL FEUD

The tension between Hearn and White has been simmering across the calendar year.

Both men are recognized worldwide as the dominant voices of their respective sports.

White has led the Ultimate Fighting Championship into an undisputed mixed martial arts powerhouse.

Hearn has built Matchroom Boxing into a premier global boxing brand, guiding Joshua through historic stadium shows.

When arrangements for Tyson Fury against Anthony Joshua took center stage, their paths collided directly.

The rivalry intensified as questions surfaced regarding who would produce and control the massive broadcast presentation.

Disagreements over operational roles and card development quickly surfaced in public comments.

Neither executive has been shy about criticizing the other's methods or promotional philosophy.

Their continuous exchanges created an ongoing sideshow to the heavyweight megafight itself.

White has grown visibly annoyed with the constant media focus on their personal dynamic.

The UFC chief has repeatedly voiced frustration when reporters press him on the topic of Hearn.

MISFITS ENTERS WITH A TEN MILLION DOLLAR PURSE

As the public bickering dragged on, crossover promotion Misfits Boxing decided to capitalize on the tension.

Misfits Boxing co-founder Kalle Sauerland stepped into the fray with a concrete financial proposal.

Sauerland revealed during an interview with IFL TV that formal written offers were submitted to both men.

The initial pitch was an astonishing twenty million dollar winner-takes-all purse.

That structure was later adjusted to provide a guaranteed payday for each executive.

Sauerland confirmed that the revised paperwork offers a straight ten million dollars to step into the ring.

"A lot of people asked me if it’s bulls**t and I said, 'No it’s not, I’ll pay $20 million for that,'" Sauerland told IFL TV.

"So we put it in writing to Dana and Eddie, called Eddie and actually with Eddie, we’re not far off, I think he’d confirm that if you ask him on the terms," Sauerland explained.

"I’m not gonna lean out the boat because I’ve not totally tied it up with Eddie but we’re close with Eddie and Dana has had it in writing," the promoter added.

"And I changed it too from a $20 million winner takes all to a $10 million straight offer now," Sauerland stated.

WHERE THE TWO EXECUTIVES STAND

Despite Sauerland's claims of advanced discussions on one side, a finalized agreement remains elusive.

Sauerland indicated that talks with Hearn were moving positively and approaching agreed terms.

However, Sauerland made clear that nothing has been completely tied up with the Matchroom chief.

On the other side of the proposed matchup, White has shown little interest in entertaining the bout.

The formal written offer sits in White's possession without any commitment from the UFC leader.

When asked about the Misfits fight proposal last month, White rolled his eyes at the idea.

White suggested that the promotion was merely hunting for public attention and a cheap reaction.

The dismissal stands in contrast to remarks White made earlier in the year.

Back in March, White publicly stated that he would be willing to face Hearn inside a boxing ring.

Yet as formal paperwork arrived, the mixed martial arts executive has kept his distance from the proposal.

THE SHADOW OF FURY VERSUS JOSHUA

The entire dispute remains inextricably linked to the looming showdown between Fury and Joshua.

The British heavyweight battle is widely considered one of the biggest events in modern boxing history.

High-profile undercard pairings have already begun falling into place for the historic card.

A marquee clash between Deontay Wilder and Jai Opetaia was recently added to the Fury-Joshua bill on Netflix.

With global eyes and massive production resources focused on the event, executive posturing has reached unprecedented levels.

Sauerland even leaned into the spectacle by joking about where and when the executive fight could happen.

The Misfits co-founder playfully suggested hosting Hearn versus White at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He floated scheduling the promoters' clash the very night after Fury and Joshua finish their battle.

While delivered humorously, the comment highlighted how deeply intertwined the executive feud has become with the heavyweight event.

Promoters battling for prestige often generate headlines that rival the fighters they represent.
