Hacksaw Jim Duggan Reveals How Stress Got Him a WWE Job

Jason Sensation got his WWE break because of a coincidence involving Vince McMahon's stress level after the Montreal Screwjob.
Speaking on the "Insight" podcast, Sensation described how he met McMahon at a CTV studio in 1997.
Carl De Marco called him and said, "If you can get down to CTV, I'll try to introduce you to Vince."
Sensation arrived during a break between two tapings of a television interview.
Landsberg was grilling McMahon because it was after the Montreal Screwjob.
Landsberg got McMahon to admit he lied in that interview.
"He grilled him and grilled him," Sensation said.
McMahon was under visible stress.
"It was perfect timing because Vince was under such stress in that interview that it was comic relief now," Sensation recalled.
Triple H was also filming a segment at the studio that day.

Triple H was backstage putting Sensation over to McMahon.
Carl De Marco was also putting Sensation over.
When they introduced Sensation to McMahon, McMahon asked what he did.
Sensation did an Owen Hart impression.
"Vince was like, 'Oh my God, I've never heard an Owen Hart impression, come on,'" Sensation said.
Sensation said, "Woo! I'm not a Nugget Slammy Award winner!"
McMahon said, "That's great."
Carl De Marco then said, "Do Shawn Michaels for him."
Sensation did the impression.
McMahon responded, "Nobody can do Shawn Michaels. We've got to get you on air, kid."

McMahon was true to his word.
Sensation did a bunch of impressions for him.
But Sensation felt he wanted to talk to McMahon more and did not get a chance during the taping.
When the second segment ended, McMahon left immediately for his limo.
Sensation ran out to the limo.
He said, "Vince, I'm on file with WWE. Please don't forget me!"
McMahon replied, "I would find that very difficult, Jason."
McMahon was true to his word.
"He got me on air," Sensation said.
Not long after, Carl De Marco called Sensation with the news.

"Here's the phone call you've been waiting for your whole life," De Marco said.
"You're coming to WrestleMania. We're doing this DX public workout."
It was a one-day gig.
WWE was flying him in, paying him $500, and he would be doing impressions with D-Generation X.
De Marco told him to stay by the phone because Vince Russo, the head writer, would call.
Sensation said, "It was my lifelong dream, just like all of us, to be a part of wrestling."
He did not know his way in because he was not athletic.
He had not made the connection of his impressions to a wrestling career.
When he was very young, he started doing impressions of wrestlers.
The Montreal Screwjob took place at Survivor Series on November 9, 1997.

It involved Shawn Michaels applying a sharpshooter on Bret Hart while referee Earl Hebner called for the bell, despite Hart not submitting.
McMahon was portrayed as the villain who orchestrated the screwjob.
In the days after, McMahon faced intense media scrutiny.
The CTV interview where Sensation met McMahon was part of that media fallout.
Sensation's impressions became a brief but memorable part of WWE programming.
He appeared on WWE television doing impressions of Owen Hart and Shawn Michaels.
The DX public workout at WrestleMania was a promotional event.
Sensation's story illustrates how timing and a unique skill can open doors in professional wrestling.
McMahon, despite the stress of the moment, recognized talent and acted on it.
The incident remains a footnote in the larger history of the Montreal Screwjob.
But for Sensation, it was the break of a lifetime.
He went from a fan doing impressions to sharing a ring with D-Generation X at WrestleMania.
All because he walked into a studio at the right moment.
And because McMahon needed a laugh.
