Kelly Stafford Blasts NFL Over Rams’ Fake Bye Week

Kelly Stafford, wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, publicly called out the NFL over the team's scheduling disadvantage.
She posted on Instagram questioning why the Rams are the only team in the league without a true bye week.
"Just curious to hear the thought process behind making the Rams the only team in the NFL without a true bye week," Kelly wrote.
"Because damn, after 18 years around this league, even I need a week off during the season… and I have never played a single snap."
"I'm tired just watching from the stands. Can't imagine how the guys feel."
She ended the post by asking the NFL to explain: "Anyway, feel free to leave that explanation right here."
The Rams are scheduled to play the first Thanksgiving Eve game in NFL history on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
They will host the Green Bay Packers at 8 p.m. ET on Netflix.
Normally, a team goes 14 days between games during a bye week.

The Rams will only get 10 days off.
Here is their schedule in the lead-up to the Thanksgiving Eve game.
Week 10: at Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Nov. 15.
Week 11: BYE on Nov. 22.
Week 12: vs. Green Bay Packers on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
Week 13: vs. Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, Dec. 3.
The Packers are in a similar situation but get a slightly more favorable schedule.
Green Bay will not have a full bye either.
But the Packers play only one game over a 19-day period.

Here is Green Bay's schedule in the same window.
Week 10: vs. Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Nov. 15.
Week 11: BYE on Nov. 22.
Week 12: at Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday, Nov. 25.
Week 13: at New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Dec. 6.
The Rams also have a Thursday night game the following week against the Chiefs.
That further disrupts their rest compared to the Packers.
Come the end of the season, the Rams will be the second-most traveled team in the NFL.
They will log 34,847 miles traveled.

Only the San Francisco 49ers will travel more.
The 49ers played the Rams in Australia to open the season.
The Rams were also given a Friday game against the Seattle Seahawks on Christmas Day.
If the Rams end up playing a Saturday game later in the season, they would become just the fourth team in 99 years to play a game on six different days of the week during a single season.
The NFL has been experimenting with scheduling near Thanksgiving in recent years.
The league expanded its schedule to Black Friday in each of the past three seasons.
This year's Black Friday matchup features the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Pirates.
With viewership on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday so high, the NFL is clearly looking at every possibility to maximize viewership around the holiday.
"Every offseason we look for new opportunities to best serve our fans in the schedule-making process," the NFL said in a statement to The Associated Press in March.

"As Commissioner Goodell has said, Thanksgiving and NFL football have become synonymous and given the continued growth of fan interest around our games on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, looking for additional opportunities tied to this special holiday is exciting for us to explore."
The Rams currently sit at 4-4 with crucial games coming up.
They face the Washington Commanders and Arizona Cardinals in their next two games.
That gives them a golden opportunity to improve their position in the playoff picture.
Their next game comes against the Commanders on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. PT.
The Rams have other things to worry about before their Thanksgiving Eve game.
Kelly Stafford's public criticism highlights a growing tension between players, families and the league over schedule demands.
The NFL has not responded directly to her Instagram post.
The league's statement from March about exploring holiday opportunities remains its official position.
Whether the Rams' compressed schedule affects their playoff chances remains to be seen.
But for now, one of the league's most visible wives has made it clear she thinks her husband's team got a raw deal.
