Nicki Minaj’s Lawyers Ask Court To Drop Her Amid $200,000 Lawsuit Over Communication Breakdown

Nicki Minaj’s Lawyers Ask Court To Drop Her Amid $200,000 Lawsuit Over Communication Breakdown

Law firm Kurzman Eisenberg Corbin & Lever has asked a court to remove them as legal counsel for Nicki Minaj and Pink Friday Productions in an ongoing lawsuit over $200,000 in expenses.

The high-stakes motion marks a dramatic rupture between the global hip-hop superstar and the attorneys hired to defend her.

According to court filings obtained by TMZ, the legal team no longer wishes to represent the performer in the active dispute.

The underlying conflict stems from an action brought forward by 24/7 Productions.

The production company claims that Minaj failed to reimburse more than $200,000 in project expenses.

Those disputed costs were tied directly to work on her recent studio album, Pink Friday 2.

Now, the battle has shifted from an external business fight to a crisis inside Minaj's own defense camp.

COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN

Attorneys from Kurzman Eisenberg Corbin & Lever informed the court that the professional relationship has completely deteriorated.

The firm formally cited irreconcilable differences regarding how to handle the defense.

They also specifically highlighted the “conduct of the representation” in their official plea to be relieved.

Documents indicate that the attorneys reached a breaking point after finding it impossible to work together with the musician.

A primary issue cited in the filing is a severe breakdown in basic contact.

Process servers and legal staff reportedly attempted to deliver formal notices to Minaj at her personal residence.

The rapper owns a luxury estate valued at an estimated $10 million.

Despite visiting the property, representatives reported significant difficulties reaching the star.

The firm told the court that they have had an exceptionally hard time communicating with their own client.

Without reliable contact, counsel cannot obtain necessary instructions or mount an active defense.

Under civil court rules, attorneys cannot simply walk away from a client in active litigation.

They must formally petition the presiding judge for permission to withdraw from the record.

A judge must evaluate whether dropping representation would unfairly prejudice the proceedings.

If the court approves the request, Minaj and Pink Friday Productions could be left without active legal representation.

Corporate entities named as defendants cannot legally represent themselves in court without licensed counsel.

ANOTHER FIRM DEMANDS PAYMENT

The move by Kurzman Eisenberg Corbin & Lever is not the only legal firestorm Minaj currently faces.

A second prominent law firm is aggressively demanding hundreds of thousands of dollars from the rapper.

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani has returned to Los Angeles County Superior Court to pursue Minaj and her company, Harajuku Barbie Music.

According to reporting from Rolling Stone, that firm alleges Minaj breached their agreement by failing to settle major legal bills.

The firm claims she owes an outstanding balance of $295,605.

That balance includes charges for legal services, accrued fees, and accumulated interest.

The unpaid work dates back to an intense federal copyright dispute.

Minaj had previously been accused of copyright infringement regarding her 2014 record titled “I Lied.”

Musician Julius Johnson filed that lawsuit, claiming Minaj lifted the beat and instrumentation from his song “onmysleeve.”

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani defended Minaj through the copyright proceedings.

That underlying song dispute was eventually resolved through a private settlement and dismissed.

However, the attorneys who secured that outcome claim their invoices were ignored.

THE DEFAULT JUDGMENT THREAT

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani originally sued Minaj for the unpaid legal fees back in March.

According to their latest filing, more than 30 days have elapsed since Minaj was formally served with the lawsuit.

Court documents state that the performer has failed to respond to the complaint “in any way.”

Because of that total silence, the firm renewed a formal request for a default judgment.

A default judgment is a binding ruling issued by a judge when a defendant fails to appear or contest a claim.

If granted, the court can award the plaintiff the full monetary amount demanded without a trial.

The Los Angeles County Superior Court has scheduled an official hearing on the default award for November 16.

Representatives for Minaj did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the renewed filing.

With two separate legal battles escalating at once, Minaj faces exposure of nearly half a million dollars across the two cases.

POLITICAL DETOURS AMID COURT DEADLINES

While her legal team moved to drop her and an ex-firm sought a default judgment, Minaj was seen far from Los Angeles courtrooms.

On Tuesday, the rap icon spent Election Day in the state of New Hampshire.

According to NBC 10 in Boston, Minaj greeted voters outside a local polling station in the town of Derry.

Witnesses noted she arrived at the polling location accompanied by a police escort.

She posed for photos beside campaign signage for Anthony DiLorenzo, a Trump-endorsed Republican congressional candidate.

DiLorenzo ultimately lost the election contest to Democrat Stefany Shaheen.

Her New Hampshire appearance followed another high-profile political outing just days earlier in Michigan.

Minaj joined former President Donald Trump at a major campaign rally leading into the midterm vote.

She arrived in Michigan after flying aboard Air Force One with the former president.

During the political gathering, Minaj took the microphone and led the arena crowd in a “We love Trump” chant.

She addressed cultural issues directly from the stage.

“We don’t want our children to be bombarded with sex changes, right?” she told the assembled audience.

Minaj also told the crowd that she would support Trump if he sought a third term in office.

Trump praised the artist during his own remarks to the crowd.

“By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before: Nicki Minaj! That’s hard to miss,” he said from the stage.

During the flight on the plane, Minaj staged a mock interview acting as White House press secretary.

She called Trump a “great guy” and characterized him as a sharp businessman.

She also claimed he had “won three elections,” though publicly certified records show he has won two.

The alliance drew significant attention because Minaj had previously vowed never to endorse Trump.

The political candidates she backed faced steep setbacks at the ballot box.
