Red Wings Reveal Teams They'd Add to Dylan Larkin's Trade List

The Dylan Larkin trade saga in Detroit just took another sharp turn — and this time, we have the names.

According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the Red Wings recently asked Larkin’s camp to expand his approved trade destinations by six to eight teams.

Larkin’s camp said no.

LeBrun reported the details during an appearance on RDS’s Aux 4 coins de la LNH.

Interim general manager Shawn Horcoff reached out to Larkin’s agents, Pat Brisson and Matt Williams, to explain that he had explored trade possibilities with all 10 of Larkin’s approved teams.

Horcoff came up empty on a satisfactory return.

He then asked whether Larkin would be willing to add six to eight more teams to his list.

Brisson told the Red Wings that Larkin had already made a significant concession by expanding his original list from three teams to 10.

The message was clear: Detroit should be able to find a workable deal within that group.

LeBrun identified the specific teams Detroit wanted to add.

The Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres and Los Angeles Kings have all reportedly expressed interest in acquiring Larkin.

All four remain outside his list of approved destinations.

Each of those teams could theoretically put together compelling trade packages.

None of it matters if Larkin won’t waive his no-trade clause to go there.

Montreal could use a proven top-six center to complement Nick Suzuki.

Boston has been connected to Detroit players as well, including defenseman Simon Edvinsson.

But reported interest and an achievable trade are two very different things when the player holds all the cards on where he ends up.

Larkin has been suspended without pay after refusing to suit up for Detroit while awaiting a trade.

He holds a full no-trade clause in his contract.

He initially provided the team with just three acceptable destinations.

He later expanded that list to 10 teams, which seemed like progress at the time.

Horcoff has apparently been unable to find a deal among those 10 clubs that makes sense for the organization.

So the Red Wings went back to Larkin’s camp and asked for more flexibility.

They got a door slammed in their face.

This standoff has been brewing for weeks.

Larkin’s banner was taken down at Little Caesars Arena, a move that fueled speculation that his departure was imminent.

The Red Wings have been fielding calls from multiple teams, but the combination of Larkin’s no-trade clause and Detroit’s asking price has created a logjam.

Other NHL insiders have reported that the Minnesota Wild have mounted a persistent pursuit centered around multiple first-round draft picks.

The Washington Capitals, Utah Mammoth and Canadiens remain prominent contenders — at least from the outside.

But none of those teams can force a trade if Larkin refuses to go there.

The situation has also pulled in other Detroit assets.

Defenseman Simon Edvinsson, an unsigned restricted free agent, has drawn significant interest from the Montreal Canadiens, according to NHL Network insider David Pagnotta.

Edvinsson’s contract extension negotiations hit an impasse over significant salary discrepancies.

With the NHL’s Dec. 1 signing deadline fast approaching — after which he becomes ineligible to skate this season — the 23-year-old blueliner considers a trade his most realistic path back onto the ice.
