Sydney Sweeney’s Horror Remake Confirms Huge He-Man Star Has Joined Movie’s Cast.

Nicholas Galitzine is in final negotiations to play Ichabod Crane opposite Sydney Sweeney in Hollow, Sony Pictures’ upcoming reimagining of Washington Irving’s classic supernatural story.

The casting news comes from Deadline, which reports that Galitzine is close to landing the role.

If the deal closes, Galitzine will join a cast that already includes Sweeney as Katrina Van Tassel and Belmont Cameli as Brom Bones.

Those three characters form the center of a supernatural love triangle at the heart of filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer’s new take on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Galitzine has become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after young actors following his breakout performance in the Amazon romantic comedy Red, White & Royal Blue.

He followed that up by starring opposite Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You, earning strong reviews for his performance.

His recent projects also include playing He-Man in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming Masters of the Universe movie.

He also appeared in the Netflix war drama The Mosquito Bowl, portraying real-life football player John McLaughry.

In The Sheep Detectives, Galitzine played Elliot Matthews, a news journalist who turns out to be the antagonist of the movie.

The 32-year-old actor will next be seen in Red, White & Royal Wedding, where he will reprise his role as Prince Henry.

His other projects include Wings of Freedom, The Return of Stanley Atwell, A Matter of Time, and an untitled Hoyt Richards biopic.

Galitzine’s potential role as Crane adds another prominent title to his expanding filmography.

Sweeney is set to play Katrina Van Tassel, the central character in this reimagining.

Cameli, who recently starred in the Prime Video series Off Campus, will portray Brom Bones.

The project originated with Beer, who spent several years developing a new take on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

When the movie version wasn’t moving forward as quickly as she hoped, she turned her idea into a novel called Hollow.

She sold the novel to Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House.

The novel is scheduled to be published in fall 2027.

Rather than telling the familiar story primarily through Ichabod Crane’s perspective, Hollow puts Katrina Van Tassel at the center.

She is no longer simply the romantic prize in a rivalry between Crane and Brom Bones.

Instead, she becomes the central figure in a dangerous mystery and seductive supernatural love triangle.

The story blends gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue, and thriller elements into a contemporary reinvention of Irving’s classic tale.

Beer is writing and directing Hollow, which will be based on her forthcoming novel.

She previously made her feature directorial debut with the horror film Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.

Beer will also serve as a producer alongside Sweeney.

The film is being developed by Sony.

This reimagining revisits the classic tale of the headless horseman, a story previously brought to the screen by Tim Burton in 1999.

Burton’s Sleepy Hollow starred Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane, Christina Ricci as Katrina Van Tassel, and Christopher Walken as the Hessian Horseman.

That film grossed over $206 million worldwide against a $100 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo.

Depp’s portrayal of Crane was a departure from Irving’s original character, turning the superstitious schoolteacher into a forensic-minded constable.

Galitzine’s casting positions him as the direct successor to Depp in the role.

The project has been in development for several years, with Beer first optioning the rights to Irving’s story in 2020.

When studio progress stalled, Beer shifted focus to writing the novel, which she completed in 2023.

The book deal with Putnam was announced in early 2024.

With the novel set for release in fall 2027 and the movie now casting, both projects are expected to release in close proximity.

Sweeney’s involvement was first reported in early 2025.

She is coming off a string of high-profile projects including Anyone But You, Madame Web, and the horror film The Housemaid.

Sweeney also stars in the HBO series Euphoria, for which she has received multiple Emmy nominations.

Galitzine’s casting as He-Man in Masters of the Universe was announced in 2024.
