William And Harry Send Separate Notes To 198 Diana Award Winners Amid Bitter Estrangement

William And Harry Send Separate Notes To 198 Diana Award Winners Amid Bitter Estrangement

Every one of the 198 young recipients of the 2026 Diana Award received two separate emails—one from Prince William and one from Prince Harry—rather than a single joint statement from the estranged brothers.

The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex both chose to honour the latest class of changemakers from thousands of miles apart.

While their shared commitment to their late mother's memory remains intact, their refusal to unite behind a single pen highlights a bitter and unresolved rift.

Observers had long wondered if Princess Diana's enduring philanthropic work could ever bridge the distance between her two sons.

Instead, the charity’s recent global celebrations confirmed that their public and personal lives remain entirely separated.

Rather than presenting a united front, each prince drafted his own individual message of congratulations to the young leaders.

Every recipient found two distinct electronic dispatches in their inbox, each carrying a different royal voice.

A SHARED CAUSE ON OPPOSITE SIDES

The Diana Award stands as the sole official charity established in lasting memory of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Crucially, it also remains the single philanthropic endeavor supported by both William and Harry.

Yet even this profound mutual connection could not produce a joint sign-off from the royal siblings.

Prince William, aged 44, delivered his reflections on his mother's legacy as heir to the British throne.

Prince Harry, aged 42, sent his own tribute from his home across the Atlantic in the United States.

Royal observers pointed out that the deliberate absence of a shared statement lays bare an unhealed feud.

Reports surrounding the gesture indicate continued tension between the pair, with Harry reportedly frustrated by William’s persistent cold shoulder.

Rather than coordinating their outreach, the two brothers simply allowed their independent tributes to travel across the wires side by side.

GLOBAL CHANGEMAKERS HONOURED

The virtual ceremony held on Wednesday, November 4, recognized young leaders tackling critical problems across the globe.

In total, 198 outstanding individuals from 44 different countries were honored for their transformative work.

India accounted for the largest national cohort this year, boasting 49 individual winners.

Nigeria followed closely with 25 honorees celebrated for their humanitarian efforts.

The United States produced 23 award recipients, completing the top three contributing nations.

Together, those three countries represented 97 of the 198 young leaders recognized by the organization.

The class also expanded the global footprint of the foundation into brand-new territory.

Nine countries celebrated their very first Diana Award winners this year, including Ukraine and Mongolia.

Organizers described the award as the highest accolade a young person can achieve for social action and humanitarian service.

To qualify for nomination, changemakers had to be between the ages of 9 and 25.

They were also required to demonstrate at least 12 continuous months of life-changing activity, often accomplished while navigating immense personal adversity.

In addition to global recognition, all 198 winners received a formal invitation to visit Althorp House.

The historic Spencer family estate in Northamptonshire is the celebrated ancestral home where Princess Diana spent her childhood.

WORDS OF ENDURING LEGACY

The leadership of the organization praised the incredible breadth and impact of this year's honorees.

Dr. Tessy Ojo CBE, the chief executive of The Diana Award, emphasized that the class showcased an extraordinary international spirit.

She noted that the honorees proved that the profound desire to make a meaningful difference knows no borders.

"We are incredibly proud to celebrate young people from across the world receiving the Diana Award this year," Dr. Ojo stated.

"Their courage, compassion and determination to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges are a powerful reminder that young people are the changemakers of today," she continued.

Dr. Ojo further highlighted how directly these actions reflect the values championed by the late princess.

"These young people are proof that, whatever their background or circumstances, the desire to make a difference is universal. They are building on Diana, Princess of Wales’ legacy almost thirty years on."

A HISTORY OF SEPARATE DUTIES

This is far from the first time the estranged brothers have chosen to divide their participation in the Diana Award.

Back in July 2020, Prince Harry took center stage at a virtual ceremony to address a class of 184 recipients.

During that appearance, Harry directed his impassioned message toward young changemakers fighting against systemic racism and social injustice.

He told the group at the time that he felt incredibly proud to play a role in his mother's namesake awards.

Harry added that Princess Diana would have stood firmly in their corner as they fought for a fairer world.

"You are all doing such incredible work," Harry told the recipients during that 2020 event.

"At a time of great uncertainty, you have found the power and inspiration inside of you to make a positive mark on the world," he affirmed.

Two years later, in 2022, Prince William took his own turn to honor 180 changemakers representing 29 nations.

William dispatched a formal letter written on Kensington Palace stationery, prominently stamped with his royal W cipher.

In his letter, the Prince of Wales described the young honorees as the true personification of his mother’s enduring legacy.

"I know she would be so proud of you all," William wrote to the 2022 cohort.
