Matilda the Musical 2: Symphony of Rebellion (2026)

Posted on July 4, 2026

Starring: Alisha Weir, Lashana Lynch, Emma Thompson, Stephen Graham

Matilda Wormwood successfully changed her own story in the past, but it turns out that the rest of the world still desperately needs a whole lot of rewriting. Matilda the Musical 2 Symphony of Rebellion brings our extraordinarily gifted and delightfully telekinetic young prodigy right into her highly complicated and emotionally charged teenage years. She is currently living a wonderfully happy and peaceful existence alongside her loving adoptive mother Miss Honey. However, their perfectly tranquil life is suddenly and rudely disrupted when a brand new and incredibly draconian educational school board steps into undeniable power. This highly intimidating and bureaucratic group aggressively threatens to completely shut down the newly reformed Crunchem Hall and entirely undo every single positive and nurturing change that Matilda and Miss Honey have worked so incredibly hard to carefully build.

Alisha Weir makes an absolutely stunning return to the beloved titular role, maturing beautifully into a remarkably fierce and highly inspiring young teenage leader. She flawlessly blends her significantly sharper and far more powerful telekinetic abilities with a deeply passionate and beautifully rebellious musical spirit that simply cannot be contained by any authority figure. Standing firmly and supportively beside her, Lashana Lynch truly shines with a profound quiet strength and an overwhelming maternal warmth as the highly respected and beloved headmistress Miss Honey.

Furthermore, the legendary Emma Thompson makes a surprisingly hilarious and yet undeniably terrifying cinematic return. She brilliantly portrays the deeply lingering and absolutely monstrous ideological legacy of Agatha Trunchbull which strongly haunts and heavily inspires the twisted and controlling ideals of the brand new educational establishment. Stephen Graham also joins the incredible ensemble cast, bringing a powerfully strict and captivating presence to the rapidly unfolding dramatic narrative.

But bravely standing up for what is morally right and just has gotten significantly harder for our exceptionally brave young heroes this time around. The brand new villains they must face are not merely physically intimidating or prone to throwing children over fences like their infamous predecessors. Instead, they cleverly utilize highly manipulative legislative rules, cold logic, and incredibly strict standardized testing systems to completely silence individual creativity and systematically stamp out artistic expression entirely. In order to successfully save their beloved school and fiercely protect their hard won academic freedom, Matilda and her incredibly loyal group of brave friends must brilliantly orchestrate a massive and perfectly synchronized musical uprising. Through their remarkably powerful songs and incredibly clever rebellious actions, they emphatically prove to the entire world that a little bit of strategic naughtiness is sometimes exactly what a highly oppressive and boring society needs to finally wake up.

Absolutely packed from start to finish with jaw dropping and show stopping musical numbers, genuinely dazzling and highly energetic dance choreography, and incredibly heartwarming thematic messages, Matilda the Musical 2 Symphony of Rebellion successfully delivers a truly magical and deeply empowering cinematic symphony for audiences of absolutely all ages. In a rigid modern world that is constantly and relentlessly trying to force wonderfully unique children into perfectly uniform little boxes, the movie beautifully proves that the absolute greatest ultimate superpower anyone can ever possess is finally finding and confidently embracing your very own authentic voice. The grand stage is entirely set, the musical instruments are fully tuned, and the incredibly talented teenage Matilda is finally about to turn up the volume to an absolute maximum.
