Corbin Carroll and Gabriel Moreno are Silver Slugger finalists

Two Arizona Diamondbacks players are finalists for the 2026 Silver Slugger Award.
Corbin Carroll and Gabriel Moreno each earned nominations when MLB released the list of National League finalists on Thursday.
The Silver Slugger is given annually to the best offensive player at each position in each league.
Winners are selected by a vote of MLB managers and coaches, who cannot vote for their own players.
Gabriel Moreno is a finalist at catcher.
His only competitor is Hunter Goodman of the Colorado Rockies.
Both play in the National League West.
Moreno put up a .311 batting average this season.
Goodman hit .245.
Moreno also led in on-base percentage (.388 to .310) and OPS (.874 to .839).
He collected 20 more hits and 13 more doubles than Goodman in 45 fewer at-bats.
Goodman played eight more games than Moreno.
Goodman, however, hit 41 home runs — more than double Moreno’s 16.
Goodman also had the higher slugging percentage: .529 to .486.
Corbin Carroll is a finalist in the outfield category.

He is one of seven finalists for three outfield spots.
The other six finalists are Jackson Chourio (Milwaukee Brewers), Pete Crow-Armstrong (Chicago Cubs), Seiya Suzuki (Chicago Cubs), Fernando Tatis Jr. (San Diego Padres), Jordan Walker (St. Louis Cardinals) and James Wood (Washington Nationals).
Carroll’s standout statistic is triples.
He finished the season with 17 triples for the second straight year.
That ties his career high.
In other areas, Carroll had a down year by his standards.
He hit 22 home runs, tying his lowest mark in a full season.
Among the seven outfield finalists, Carroll ranked last in batting average at .239.
No other finalist was below .265.
He ranked sixth in on-base percentage at .328.
The lowest among the others was .327.
He ranked sixth in OPS at .795.
The lowest among the others was .793.
The winners will be announced on November 17.
The Diamondbacks have recent history with the award.

Carroll was one of three NL outfielders to win the Silver Slugger in 2025.
That was the first Silver Slugger of his career.
Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo each won at their infield positions in 2025.
Before Marte won in 2024, the Diamondbacks had not had a Silver Slugger winner since pitcher Zack Greinke won in 2019.
The Silver Slugger has been awarded annually since 1980.
It is produced by Hillerich & Bradsby, the same company that makes Louisville Slugger bats.
The award recognizes the best hitter at each position in both the American League and National League.
A separate award is given for designated hitters in the American League.
Utility players are also recognized in a separate category.
Fernando Tatis Jr., one of Carroll’s competitors in the outfield, was also nominated in the utility category.
Tatis played both right field and second base for the Padres this season.
He began playing second base in early April after spending most of the previous three seasons in the outfield.
Tatis won Silver Slugger Awards at shortstop in 2020 and 2021.
He is seeking his first award as an outfielder or utility player.
Tatis started the 2026 season slowly.

Through May 29, he was hitting .268 with a .652 OPS and no home runs.
He hit his first home run on May 30.
Over the final four months, he posted a .289 average with an .828 OPS, 25 doubles, 25 home runs and 83 RBIs.
His strikeout rate dropped from 24.9% in the first two months to 20.8% for the full season.
Tatis’ defensive numbers at second base included a .979 fielding percentage over 53 appearances (50 starts).
The MLB average for second basemen is .987.
He recorded 115 assists, 71 putouts and helped turn 19 double plays.
The voting process for the Silver Slugger is conducted before the end of the regular season.
Managers and coaches vote on players within their own league.
They select the player they believe had the best offensive season at each position.
Statistical measures such as batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, home runs, RBIs and runs created are typically considered.
Defensive statistics are not part of the evaluation.
For outfield, three winners are selected regardless of specific outfield position.
For all other positions, one winner is selected per position.
The 2026 winners will be revealed on November 17.
The Diamondbacks will be watching closely to see if Carroll or Moreno bring home the award.
Arizona had three winners in 2025, the most in a single season for the franchise since the award began.
