Jessica Pegula holds a losing record against Mirra Andreeva in the wake of the hot-mic controversy that has rocked the 2026 WTA Finals.

The American tennis pro was caught on a live microphone calling the 19-year-old French Open champion a 'diva' after a practice session at Indian Wells.

The WTA has since deleted all footage of the session, but the audio clip has spread across social media.

Pegula and Andreeva have never faced each other in a singles match.

They have met three times in doubles and mixed doubles events.

Andreeva leads their head-to-head series 2-1.

The first meeting came at the 2025 Qatar Open in the first round of the women's doubles draw.

Andreeva partnered Diana Shnaider against Pegula and Ashlyn Krueger.

The American pair won the first set 6-4.

The Russian duo fought back to take the second set 6-3.

The match went to a deciding tiebreak, which Andreeva and Shnaider won 10-7.

Pegula got her revenge later in 2025 at the US Open.

The revamped mixed doubles tournament at Flushing Meadows brought Pegula and Jack Draper together against Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev.

The match was a quarterfinal.

Pegula and Draper dropped only two games in the entire contest.

They won 4-1, 4-1 in the shortened format.

Their most recent meeting was at the 2026 Italian Open in Rome.

Andreeva and Shnaider faced Pegula and Storm Hunter in the women's doubles semifinals.

The Russian pair won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

That victory gave Andreeva a 2-1 lead in the head-to-head series.

The hot-mic incident happened during a practice session at Indian Wells, where the WTA Finals are being held this year.

Footage captured Pegula talking to her coach after Andreeva left the practice court early.

Pegula was heard saying: 'Conchita's always been very nice to me, but I lost a little respect for her because I'm just like this girl.

I think she's a nice girl but she's a diva.

She needs to be humbled.'

Conchita Martínez is Andreeva's coach, a former world No. 2 from Spain who won Wimbledon in 1994.

Pegula continued: 'If I was a coach and my girl, you just played four great games and you're up 4-0 and you're mad at me, hitting balls at me … first of all, that's disrespectful to the other person… like shut the f— up.

Conchita like pokes her and eggs on her behavior …

She has a perfect serve, she's smart, she anticipates well, but she's crazy.'

Pegula's coach can be heard on the tape adding that Andreeva needs to be 'put in her place.'

Pegula then compared Andreeva's mentality to that of Coco Gauff, the 2023 US Open champion.

'It's so funny how you see her and you see Coco's mentality — like if she has Coco's mentality, she's better than Coco … the serve, everything, all around and moves just as good, but mentally, she's just…'

Andreeva has not yet publicly responded to Pegula's comments.

Pegula is the daughter of Terry Pegula, the billionaire owner of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres.

She is currently ranked No. 6 in the world in singles and No. 11 in doubles.

Andreeva, at 19, is ranked No. 4 in singles after winning her first Grand Slam at the 2026 French Open.

The WTA Finals began on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California.

Pegula is scheduled to play Coco Gauff on Sunday in the group stage.

Andreeva is scheduled to face Elina Svitolina on Monday.

Both players are in different groups for the round-robin stage.

For Pegula and Andreeva to meet in the tournament, one of two scenarios must happen.

Pegula would need to win Group 1 while Andreeva finishes second in Group 2.

Alternatively, Andreeva would need to win Group 2 while Pegula finishes second in Group 1.

Either scenario would set up a semifinal match between the two.

The WTA Finals is the season-ending championship for the Women's Tennis Association.

It features the top eight singles players and top eight doubles teams of the year.

The tournament uses a round-robin format, with two groups of four players.
