These 8 ATP players have more Top 10 wins than Zverev this year.

Eight ATP Tour players have recorded more victories against top-10 opponents in 2026 than Alexander Zverev, the newly crowned year-end world No. 1.
Zverev finished the season atop the ATP rankings for the first time in his career.
He won his first two Grand Slam titles this year, at Roland Garros and the US Open.
But his record against the best players on tour tells a different story.
The German holds a 3-9 win-loss mark against top-10 opponents in 2026.
Six of those nine losses came against Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Here are the eight players who have more top-10 wins than Zverev this season.
Jannik Sinner leads the list with 10 top-10 victories, despite missing half the year with injury.
Carlos Alcaraz has six, despite being sidelined for four and a half months.
Novak Djokovic also has six, having played only 31 matches all season.
Arthur Fils has five top-10 wins, despite starting his season in February and missing two of the four Grand Slams.
Frances Tiafoe has five as well.
Lorenzo Musetti has four, even though his season was derailed by several injuries.
Alex de Minaur has four.
Brandon Nakashima has four.
Zverev sits at three.

The only top-10 players Zverev has beaten in 2026 are Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, and Alex de Minaur.
Fritz and Shelton were both defeated at Grand Slams.
This statistic has fueled criticism of Zverev's world No. 1 status.
After his Paris Masters loss to Lorenzo Musetti this week, Zverev called it one of his worst performances in recent months.
He also expressed frustration at having to justify his position at the top of the rankings.
Zverev argued he is the first world No. 1 in history who has had to explain his ascension.
He said the constant harassment had 'annoyed' him.
He suggested it was unfair and that he 'deserved' to be where he is.

But the numbers are hard to ignore.
Jannik Sinner has won seven more matches against top-10 players in half a season.
Carlos Alcaraz managed double Zverev's total despite missing four and a half months of action.
Novak Djokovic has won double the amount of top-10 matches despite playing only 31 matches all season.
Arthur Fils, who missed two of the four Grand Slams, has also beaten more top-10 players than Zverev.
Lorenzo Musetti, whose season was derailed by injuries, still has one more top-10 victory than Zverev.
Brandon Nakashima, ranked outside the top 15, has the same number.
Zverev has undoubtedly taken massive strides in his career in 2026.

He deserves credit for winning two Grand Slams and reaching No. 1.
But until he starts to improve his record against the top 10, fans will continue to question the validity of his ranking.
The earliest Zverev could lose the No. 1 spot is early February 2027, after the Australian Open.
Only Jannik Sinner could pass him at that point.
It would take perfection from Sinner and an implosion from Zverev.
Sinner needs to win the Australian Open title.
Then he needs Zverev's ATP Finals and Australian Open points to add up to less than 630.
For example, one round-robin win (200 points) plus a quarterfinal (400 points) would be enough for Sinner.

A Zverev semifinal (800 points) would keep him at No. 1 unless Sinner adds at least 170 more points in January.
For Carlos Alcaraz, the earliest he could retake the throne is a couple of weeks later.
He would need to retain his Australian Open title and win an ATP 250 event in Rotterdam.
His margin for error is close to zero.
He would need to win the Paris Masters, then the ATP Finals without losing, then defend his crown in Melbourne, then win Rotterdam.
All while relying on Zverev to get no Turin wins and suffer a first-round loss in Melbourne.
A more realistic timeframe for a change at the top comes later in the season.
Zverev will now aim to end his season on a high at the ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna.
His top-10 record will be under intense scrutiny every time he steps on court.
