Princess Diana’s Legacy Celebrated As 198 Young Leaders Across 44 Countries Receive Royal Honors

A cohort of 198 young changemakers aged 9 to 25 from 44 countries was honored at the Diana Award's virtual ceremony, including first-time honorees from Ukraine and Mongolia.
The global recognition highlights an extraordinary generation dedicated to tackling pressing societal challenges.
Established in memory of the late Princess of Wales, the organization stands as the sole charity bearing her name.
It also represents the only philanthropic endeavor actively supported by both of her sons.
The annual honors celebrate young humanitarians who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving their communities.
Through their efforts, the enduring spirit of Diana continues to reach every corner of the globe.
GLOBAL REACH OF THE 2026 HONOREES
This year's class of recipients represents exceptional diversity and geographic reach.
In total, 198 exceptional individuals across 44 separate nations earned the prestigious accolade.
India produced the largest contingent of recipients this year, with 49 individual changemakers recognized.
Nigeria followed closely with 25 honorees celebrated for their community impact.
The United States contributed 23 award recipients to the international roster.
Together, these three nations accounted for 97 of the 198 young leaders honored.
Nine different countries celebrated their inaugural Diana Award recipients during the ceremony.
Among those debuting nations were Ukraine and Mongolia.
Their inclusion underscores the expanding global footprint of the charity's mission.

RIGOROUS STANDARDS FOR RECOGNITION
Earning a Diana Award requires profound personal commitment and sustained effort.
Candidates must be between the ages of 9 and 25 to be eligible for nomination.
Nominees must also demonstrate at least 12 consecutive months of life-changing community activity.
Many of these young leaders pursued their humanitarian missions while confronting immense personal adversity.
The organization describes the honor as the most prestigious accolade a young person can receive for social action.
In addition to global recognition, recipients earned an invitation to Althorp House.
Althorp House serves as the historic Spencer family estate where Princess Diana spent her childhood.
The visit connects modern changemakers directly with the roots of the woman who inspired the movement.
WORDS OF PRAISE FROM LEADERSHIP
Dr. Tessy Ojo CBE, the chief executive of The Diana Award, commended the cohort for their vision.
"We are incredibly proud to celebrate young people from across the world receiving the Diana Award this year," Dr. Ojo stated.
She highlighted the direct link between the recipients' work and the humanitarian values championed by Diana.
"Their courage, compassion and determination to tackle some of the world’s most pressing challenges are a powerful reminder that young people are the changemakers of today."
Dr. Ojo emphasized that meaningful service transcends national borders and personal backgrounds.
"These young people are proof that, whatever their background or circumstances, the desire to make a difference is universal."

She noted that Diana's foundational mission remains vibrant and urgent nearly three decades after her tragic passing.
"They are building on Diana, Princess of Wales’ legacy almost thirty years on."
ROYAL BROTHERS UNITE IN SPIRIT
Prince William and Prince Harry both took deliberate steps to recognize the achievements of the 198 recipients.
The Prince of Wales, 44, and the Duke of Sussex, 42, each penned personal messages of congratulations.
Both brothers delivered words of encouragement and heartfelt appreciation to the honorees.
Every recipient received one separate congratulatory note from each prince.
The royal messages were distributed to the recipients electronically following the virtual event.
Despite their unified support for the charity, the brothers participated completely apart.
The delivery of two separate notes highlighted their ongoing personal estrangement.
While distance and division remain between them, their mother's memory provided a rare point of shared dedication.
A HISTORY OF DIVIDED ENGAGEMENT
The dual letters continue an established pattern of separate participation by the royal brothers.
Over recent years, the two princes have frequently divided their Diana Award responsibilities.
In July 2020, Prince Harry addressed 184 award recipients during a virtual presentation.
During that speech, Harry directed his message toward young leaders confronting systemic racism and injustice.

He told the 2020 cohort that he was "so incredibly proud to be part of these awards."
Harry added that Princess Diana would have stood firmly in their corner.
"You are all doing such incredible work," Harry said to the honorees at the time.
"At a time of great uncertainty, you have found the power and inspiration inside of you to make a positive mark on the world."
Two years later, Prince William stepped forward to honor the next generation of changemakers.
In 2022, William wrote directly to 180 recipients representing 29 different countries.
His message was delivered on official Kensington Palace stationery bearing his personal W cipher.
William told the honorees that they were "the personification of my mother’s legacy."
He expressed profound confidence in the lasting value of their community efforts.
"I know she would be so proud of you all," William wrote in 2022.
"I believe there’s no better way to celebrate her life and work than through recognizing incredible people who dedicate so much time and effort to helping those around them."
DISTINCT ROLES AND SEPARATE PATHS
The separation between the brothers was equally apparent during the March 2024 Diana Legacy Award ceremony.
During that event, the Prince of Wales attended the London ceremony in person.
Prince Harry joined the proceedings remotely via video link from across the Atlantic.
The brothers have not appeared together in public since July 2021.

Their last joint appearance took place at Kensington Palace for the unveiling of a statue honoring Princess Diana.
Since that moment, the brothers have maintained distinctly separate private and public lives.
Each brother continues to pursue humanitarian causes that directly reflect Diana's pioneering interests.
Prince William focuses substantial philanthropic energy on initiatives designed to combat homelessness across the United Kingdom.
Prince Harry continues his long-standing commitment to landmine clearance and youth development programs in southern Africa.
Though pursued independently, these initiatives mirror the compassionate priorities Diana championed during her lifetime.
THE ENDURING POWER OF DIANA'S VISION
Nearly thirty years after her death, Diana's humanitarian imprint remains as relevant as ever.
The Diana Award ensures that her empathetic worldview continues to inspire real-world action.
By celebrating young people from diverse cultures, the award keeps her spirit active across generations.
The 198 honorees of this year's class embody that ongoing transformation.
From grassroots projects in Ukraine to youth advocacy in Mongolia, the scope of service continues to widen.
The work of these changemakers demonstrates that youthful idealism can drive measurable global change.
Even as the royal family navigates internal divides, Diana's legacy stands unified in purpose.
Her name continues to uplift young people fighting against adversity worldwide.
What do you think is the most meaningful way today's young generation can carry forward Princess Diana's legacy?
